During my working/travelling days I had my fill of soulless business-type glossy hotels and I now try to find quirky places to stay wherever we travel. Sometimes it backfires but so long as the place is clean and comfortable, has aircon and wifi we're happy. So far, so good this trip!
In Jaipur we are staying at what is billed as a 'luxury heritage boutique hotel' which has been lovingly renovated and decorated in the style of a Haveli or Indian Mansion. Every room is decorated differently.
I've dubbed it a Marmite Hotel as its one you'll either love or hate .... we love its eccentricity.
We arrived just after 11pm last night so didn't have much time to explore the rest of the hotel but this is our room (and it didn't give us nightmares)
Its called the Patachitra Room (Patta means cloth and Chitra means picture). The paintings are done in the style of Jamini Roy who was a 1930s artist and the pictures represent Hindu deities.
Here are the photos - brace yourself!
Our bathroom
The bathroom tiles
The corridor outside our room
Corridor on floor below ours
The stairwells are full of framed photos. We're on the 3rd floor but there is a lift here so we only used the stairs so I could take some pictures
This guest house has no bar or restaurant so meals are taken on the rooftop 'Peacock' restaurant at the Sister Hotel which is just down the road - its easily walkable or the hotel provides free Tuk Tuk transportation to and from the restaurant.
There is a small kitchen here and they will provide breakfast served here in a small dining room if guests prefer that option - we didn't bother
I cheekily asked one of the staff if I could look inside another room that had been vacated - he was cleaning so there was bedlinen and towels everywhere but this gives an idea of how this room is possibly more ornate than ours!
I love the door
The corridors on another floor
Lovely message spelled out in Marigold flowers
The Lobby
Reception area
and this is the Peacock Rooftop restaurant at the sister hotel. We had a lovely breakfast there so will probably have our evening meal there tonight as we need to be up early tomorrow so don't want to go too far afield.

Good grief your hotel is amazing, I don’t know how you find them. The corridor outside your room is especially beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could have seen a few more rooms but they were all occupied. It was pretty amazing though
